FASOLT, For All Serious Opera Lovers Today, is a website dedicated to the opera. FASOLT is “dedicated to all those who share a passion for the art and who want to commemorate the artists whose legacy will be appreciated by generations to come.”
The site includes 11,000 fully catalogued and cross-referenced opera recordings, along with a dictionary consisting of more than 10,300 artists and 1,700 vocal works. It is updated quarterly. The site also includes a bulletin board for locating and trading opera recordings and memorabilia; an online opera magazine; an extensive sound section; a “great traditions” section; and a photos section.
For searching its archives, FASOLT uses dtSearch Web with Spider. “Currently, the search is done on approximately 67,000 files, representing descriptions of the recordings,” explains George Polyzoides, Chief Editor of FASOLT. (This number will keep increasing.) “Visitors can search this data using standard Boolean logic in conjunction with pre-prepared keywords to filter search results. The search is extremely fast.” |
