Epi-Search, A Free Academic Resource, Lets Researchers Enter Up to 10,000 Words of Text and, Using a dtSearch® Engine API, Find ‘More Like This’ Across the ISCE Library Contegra Systems performed the dtSearch Engine integration, leveraging the library’s SQL metadata along with the original book text to find conceptually similar items Epi-Search provides no-charge search access to the Institute for the Study of Coherence and Emergence (ISCE) library. dtSearch is a leader in enterprise and developer text retrieval software and document filters. Contegra Systems is a major provider of custom development implementations for the dtSearch Engine market, including precision faceted search and other advanced data tagging and classification options. Together, these organizations announce a new approach to academic research. “Epi-Search outperforms traditional searching algorithms because it is able to make use of key concepts,” explains Michael Lissack, Executive Director and ISCE Professor of Meaning in Organizations. Contegra Systems did the development work for this site. “Epi-Search allows academic researchers to enter a block of text as a query,” says Rob Wiesenberg, president, Contegra Systems. “The first step is to parse that text into its component concepts. We generate and present a conceptual word cloud to the user shedding light on the most valuable terms.” “We then invoke the dtSearch Engine to query for ‘more like this’ across the library’s SQL metadata and the full-text of the books themselves,” adds Mr. Wiesenberg. “The dtSearch Engine already offers natural language vector-space analysis, including an option for differential ranking of SQL metadata versus full-text content, so this part was easy.” Finally, Epi-Search takes the parsed query and lets users automatically submit it to other library sites. # # # About Epi-Search, epi-search.com About Contegra Systems, contegrasystems.com About dtSearch, dtSearch.com |
